Our History

EcoWater’s origins began in the USA in 1925 when The Lindsay Company obtained the first patent for an automatic water conditioner.   Its continued success as the leading innovator in water treatment, EcoWater Systems eventually grew to be the largest manufacturer of residential water softeners in the world.   Large capital investment and use of the best manufacturing technology EcoWater continues to lead the way.

EcoWater Systems in the UK came into existence when EcoWater Systems Inc in the USA purchased Permutit Domestic from Sketchley Water Softeners.  Permutit Domestic was a division of The Permutit Company, the oldest and most well known brand in the UK water softening market.  Trading as United Water Softeners the first Permutit water softener was installed in 1911 and the company renamed The Permutit Company in 1937.EcoWater customers in the UK now have the best of both worlds:  an old established British company combined with the expertise of a world leader.
